My tracker showed actual loop was closer to 2 miles. Even though the loggers have been working in that area, the trail was still marked well. View of Legion Lake from summit was beautiful. It was steeper going up than I what I expected but the dogs loved climbing the rocks!

A be a little cautious as a few spots are step with loose gravel/ rocks…another great short hike to give the kids a chance to stretch their legs after being cooped in the car most of the day

completed as part of the kids challenge. did not read the sign at the beginning of the trail that this was an extremely hard trail. our 4 year old did great but he’s becoming a pretty experienced hiker. this trail is pretty but it’s straight up and then straight down walking on very rocky ground. saw a buffalo.

Decent uphill incline for 3/4 of the hike, then a pretty steep decline. We did it with 2 kids, age 4 & 6 and we had to take a few breaks.

This is a short 1 miler to stretch the legs. Especially great for tourists passing through or families looking for a fun outing. The trailhead is right off of 16A in Custer State Park by the western parking lot at Legion Lake and only takes 15 minutes. A well-traversed path offering nice views of the lake. Trail passes by the swim beach and playground which is great for families. Head eastward on the path by the dam for a .25 mile skip over to Badger Clark if your interested in checking out a historical place of interest. Four stars simply because I prefer a longer path than this affords.

We did the legion lake trail and the lakeshore trail, some of the centennial, so I am trying my best to figure out how many miles were completed on each specific trail. Fun hike! Legion lake trail was moderately difficult, while the lakeshore trail was very easy.
