We followed this down from Black Elk Peak to the horse camp by the Mt Rushmore KOA. Was a fun hike along a creek.

Great loop, long day but you get the best views of Custer State Park doing this loop! Bonus you don’t have to pay to get into Custer State park if you park at the Willow Creek Horse Camp and start there.

Loved this trail! Got on at the horse camp and went to Sylvan Lake (took the Black Elk Peak trail down to the lake). The trail was beautiful! I only saw one other party on the trail. The creek was nice and some awesome rock formations 🙂

I hiked Lost Cabin from the south, off the Southern Black Elk Peak trail. It was easy to find the trail on this end; I took the more easterly connector. It was pretty bushy in a lot of spots, but there were TONS of wild raspberries all along this lightly-traveled trail. It was pretty and moderately strenuous. I don’t think I ever would have found this trail if I’d been trying to pick it up from the Willow Creek Trail; from Willow Creek there is an unmarked cut-across into a paved loop, then across that paved loop is the marked trailhead for Lost Cabin. I wish the trail was more clearly marked on that end, but with that exception this trail was great.
