Experience

This is not a marked path by any means.  This is a “treasure hunt” type hike to find the quaint little spot hidden in the rocks.  It’s a great little lunch/snack or reflection spot worth the experience.

Directions

  • Start at Sylvan Lake Resort parking area.
  • Take trailhead 4 for Black Elk Peak/Little Devil’s Tower.  Look for a leaning birch tree that points up the slope.
  • Follow that path off the trailhead.  Hidden at the top over some rocks is a green table and chairs on a flat area.

This use to be a great short hike until info got out about. Now this beautiful area is being trashed and it is very sad. For this reason I will be ranking it low.

Went to Poet’s Table and then hiked farther after. It’s such a short hike, and for some reason the one reason people seem to join the hiking club. So I’ve had to lead hikes here a few times. Honestly I’m kind of tired of it. It’s a neat view and a short, steep hike, but is a little too popular for me to sit there and enjoy it usually.

I use to love this trail when it was more of a hidden treasure, but now the path is so distinct and crowded!

I’m not sure why there are so many people complaining about this hike. I think they’re all grossly exaggerating their distaste in an effort to feign some sort of superiority. Yes, the walls are graffitied, but I think it’s the one spot it shouldn’t be frowned upon. There are no genitals or crude images or vulgarity. It’s just a bunch of names of visitors and some one-line quotes, which is essentially the purpose of this getaway alcove. I think it’s quite fitting for such a quaint and unique place. I took a couple weeks to overlay maps on top of GPS coordinates and spent lots of time on Google Maps, Google Earth, and reading tips on how to get there. There really isn’t one exact source of information. I have, however, made a map complete with precise coordinates to get you there if you’d like to get there yourself one day without getting lost or frustrated.

I enjoyed the adventure of trying to find it. This was my 4th try so glad it was an adventure and not just another trail. It has been cleaned up. Not alot of cigarette butts. New table chair and cabinet for writing and reading.

Got a couple clues from friends and did some exploring as we went up the hill. After looking around, we finally found the table and some games. A great place for a challenge, then to have a picnic lunch, chill, or ponder your bucket list.

Hiked 7/23/18 New table was up and there was 1 new cabinet. The trail was quite overgrown with all the rain we’ve had this year which made it a little more challenging to find the path up.

Use to be the best kept secret for many years, but not it is in the trail books, still can be a challenge to find. tie it in with Little Devils Tower. Have not been back up there yet after they replaced the table form the two #@* holes the took the other one.

Once you reach the top, the kind of view you will get is just stunning. Moreover, there’s a plethora of poems, letters, and stories you could check out once you reached the Table.

Definitely worth the hike and effort to reach the top. 5/5
